Huxley at Infosecurity - fresh insights from the IT field

Artificial Intelligence, data science, blockchain, cyber and cloud security were trending topics on last week’s Infosecurity event. Huxley’s consultants Céline Meunier and Anthony Webb went to speak to companies and professionals and exchange insights with regards to future business success and career growth. Read about their most interesting findings in this interview!

Céline and Anthony, thank you for being here. How did you like the Infosecurity event?
It was very interesting, a lot of companies were present. We spoke about recruitment, the business plans for the future and saw several presentations on for instance Artificial Intelligence (AI) and blockchain.

How do you see businesses are impacted by AI?
It is definitely a fast-growing industry as more tools are developed and coupled with blockchain. These tools also touch on cyber security. The increasing amount of innovations create a highly competitive market.

What should businesses do to remain front runners in this field especially when it comes to HR?
From my perspective AI is a fairly new topic with high level data science solutions. What I see is that some companies want it however they lack the expertise to implement it. Therefore, they tend to outsource and pay more for professionals who can build a system that is tailored to their business needs.

What talent is needed to keep up with competition?
More than ever, IT professionals are in high demand, especially infrastructure profiles and cloud infrastructure profiles. But also software engineers, DevOps, data scientists, AI consultants and machine learning engineers. Interesting is a new trend for legal profiles with a data security specialisation and professionals who hold newly developed Master degrees in this field.

What is a determining factor for professionals in IT to move jobs or assignments?
What we see is that the company should be an interesting one with for instance the newest technology, and challenging projects where impact on a larger scale can be made. Professionals are not money driven in the first place. They are so scarce and specialised that they in most cases have a high salary guarantee.

What advice would you give to young professionals who would like to work with for instance blockchain and AI?
Start networking as soon as you can. There is no age limit, we even see high school students or children with a high interest in this field visiting events such as Infosecurity. Try to understand where companies need to grow by talking a lot to professionals in IT but also from other departments or management positions. Ask for advice on master degrees or internships, they might even take you on board for a special training!
