Our event focussing on challenges within the Energy from Waste industry

We’re currently seeing the challenges facing Energy from Waste projects creating a lot of discussion within the energy industry. Client Business Partner, Sarah Watkins recently decided to hold an event to address these issues. On Thursday 22nd March, Huxley brought together representatives from leading companies in the industry to discuss the biggest problems facing businesses today.

Tackling issues

Sarah was passionate about bringing industry professionals together, “We really wanted to give people a space to share some of the main issues they were facing.”  Huxley partnered with Royal HaskoningDHV and Babcock & Wilcox on the event. We invited influencers within the industry to provide insight, allowing guests to share in their experiences. Martin Hopkins, Previous Waste Sector Director of Costain Ltd. and Brian Harding Technical Director at Industry & Buildings, were on hand to offer advice to those in attendance and spark conversations.

The event took on the form of a roundtable and brought together over twenty people, with a wealth of industry professionals in attendance. Everyone was given the opportunity to share specific problems facing their business. Sarah explains, “Rather than having one key speaker, we wanted to allow everyone being impacted by the industry to have their say. We believed it was important for people to hear a range of opinions. This meant that instead of just hearing things from one perspective, guests were able to gain the insight of numerous people, leaving the event better informed.”

Issues raised

One of the great things about the roundtable was that people could share their own real experiences and see that others have faced similar problems as them. Some of the most common themes to come out of the meeting were problems relating to EPC providers, proven technology and design. Attendees praised the passion of those speaking and said there was great value in hearing opinions from a variety of backgrounds.

After focussing on problems facing the industry, it seemed natural that the next step would be to discuss what can be done to overcome these issues. And therefore Sarah has already started organising another event, this time focussing on industry solutions, “It was great to hear how many people found the event informative. In the previous event we provided an arena for people to come together and find solidarity in their problems. Now, we can take the next logical step and give likeminded professionals the opportunity to work together to discuss potential solutions.”

The event, taking place later this year, will be carried out in a similar fashion. If you’d be interested in coming to learn from experts within the industry, and would like to share your input into how Energy from Waste projects can be made better, then join Huxley at our next event.
