The most in demand .NET skills

.NET developers can specialise in a lot of areas. What’s right for one developer, may not necessarily suit another developer. Whether you’re specifically aligned to front end or back end, or are still wondering what to specialise in, it’s always good to be aware of current market trends.

The world of tech is always changing, which means that the most in demand .NET skills of today might not be as popular tomorrow. Depending on market trends and current demand however, we can forecast what specialisations will last or develop themselves even further in the near future. In this article, so we took a look at the most in demand .NET skills at the time of writing.

It’s a wide web world

It’s no secret that an organisation’s web presence is crucial to success. Some companies don’t own any products at all, and their entire business model is based on a web service. Consider Airbnb for instance; they don’t own any houses or hotels, but they provide a platform that makes business possible. Similarly, Uber may be the biggest taxi company in the world, but they don’t physically own any cars, they just orchestrate the process. It’s a wide web world, and this world needs a lot of .NET developers to keep it spinning around.

C#, .NET Core and Asp .NET

Technology develops at a fast pace, and so we’re looking at the most sought after .NET skills at the time of writing. The more web experience you have as a .NET developer, the better, and C# lays a good foundation for this. The following experience can really help you to stand out from the crowd:

  • .NET Core
  • Asp .NET
  • NoSQL
  • Full Stack

.NET core
.NET core is still fairly new, and fast in response to other platforms. It has many features, but it’s mainly used to build command-line applications on Windows, Linux and MacOS. Next to this, .NET core offers an easy way to build Asp.NET applications.

Asp .NET
Asp.NET is becoming increasingly popular in the .NET development market. It allows developers to easily create web applications, and work with the latest technology.

NoSQL
SQL skills are a necessity for developers to master, but there are many different types of database management which makes it hard to decide which one to study. NoSQL databases are coming up, which means your knowledge is even more useful.

Full Stack
Full stack developers have good knowledge of front and back end development. Full stack developers are more in demand than ever, as they master a multitude of skills. As long as web development exists, this profession will grow, in fact predictions are that the market will grow with 13% until 2026.

MCSD and MVP

Next to the above skills, there are a lot of programmes and certifications that can help you to increase your market value. Microsoft’s Certified Solutions Developer certification requires you to update your development skills every two years. If an employer hires you with this certification, they’ll know that you’re skilled within this field, and can trust that you’ll keep your skills up to date as your certification will otherwise expire.

.NET developers with the MVP (Microsoft Most Valuable Professional) status are renowned for their valuable skills. Attaining this status is very special, and proves you are a .NET professional with excellent technical skills. With this status, you’ll  find yourself in extremely high demand, and will be in a strong position when it comes to negotiating your salary
