Senior Linux Manager

As the Senior Linux Manager at this top global hedge fund, you'll lead a team responsible for architecting, engineering and supporting the firm's Linux infrastructure. This will encompass everything from the servers and storage to the virtualization technologies and core enterprise services. You'll take ownership for the Linux estate, which includes production support, engineering, and architecture, but you'll also have a major role in the long-term strategy for scaling the compute services organization.

Coming into the group, this person will be expected to be a Linux subject matter expert with a propensity towards automation. The group is moving towards an infrastructure-as-code landscape, thus the Senior Linux Manager will be expected to grow and foster an automation-centric environment.

Core responsibilities include:

* Exercise thought leadership and innovation in the resolution of complex technical challenges facing the Linux infrastructure
* Create long-term technical roadmaps for the Linux platform and ensure delivery through team management
* Ensure innovation of the Linux infrastructure through improved automation, self-service capabilities and continuous evolution of the core platform
* Manage the execution and delivery of technical projects by juggling competing deadlines and collaborating with partnering teams
* Drive a platform automation strategy at both a technical level as well as through leadership style
* Create tactical and strategic technical solutions that will address the needs of the business and ensure continuous innovation within the industry
* Provide input into annual budgeting and workforce planning for technology life cycle management events
* Actively participate in production outage incidents, ensuring root-cause analysis is identified and that processes are being improved to avoid future outages
* Develop processes, procedures and best practices to ensure managed environments maintain the highest levels of availability, quality and performance

Skills Required:

* 10-15+ years of experience in the Linux space with an extensive knowledge of Unix operating systems (especially RHEL/CentOS) is required)
* 3+ years of experience managing IT staff is required
* Financial services experience is preferred, but not required
* Superior scripting/automation skills are required (one or more of the following: bash, sh, Perl, ksh, Python)
* Experience working within a low-latency/high-frequency environment is preferred
* Superior troubleshooting and performance-tuning abilities
* Clear communication skills and a proven ability to work closely with business partners across all levels of seniority
